In February 2026 FaithCare did their very first outreach to Sierra Leone!

A team of 14 US volunteers, 10 local FaithCare-Sierra Leone volunteers (and one doctor from FaithCare-Nigeria!) set out to take on a daunting task: how to somehow make a difference in a place with indescribable need. The numbers were a little overwhelming:

Sierra Leone has a population of more than 8.6 million people and has less than 100 surgeons – none of which are affordable to the majority of the citizens. Medical care simply isn’t available. There’s one urologist in the entire country. The hospital we worked out of had a women’s health center which was sitting unused because there were no qualified gynecologists on staff.

It’s no surprise that most of the people we saw, both young and old, had never seen a doctor before. Other patients had gone to medical facilities in the past, but couldn’t afford the surgery or treatments prescribed. One father told us that he had been walking around with ‘no hope’ trying to find something to help since he didn’t have any money to pay for the surgery to fix his young son’s painful umbilical hernia.

Here are the total numbers for lives we were able to touch:

Summary of Services Provided

Total patients treated: 931

Surgeries performed (general, gynecologic, and emergency): 95

Eye care services provided: 457

Laboratory tests completed: 297

Spiritual counseling & prayer: 750 individuals

Decisions for faith and spiritual growth: 246

These numbers may seem small in light of 8.6 million people, but they are HUGE in terms of the time, effort and love poured out by the volunteers, as well as the impact on each person we were able to help.

There’s still a nationwide shortage of surgeons, but because of our work and your support a woman was healed from slowly bleeding to death, and a teenager was able to start eating again after we removed an abdominal tumor that was causing her to literally starve.

And, at the end of five long days, hundreds of people were introduced to the ultimate Healer, and He makes all the difference in the world.
