On August 15, 2026, we said goodbye to a remarkable man whose life quietly demonstrated what it means to put faith into action.

Arthur W. Hill, Jr., “Art” to his many friends, was an educator, coach, mentor, church leader, husband, and faithful servant of Christ. For the FaithCare family, he was also a trusted friend, wise counselor, prayer warrior, and devoted champion of our mission.

Art served on the FaithCare Board of Directors from 2005 through 2023. Those who served alongside him remember his gentle spirit, compassion, wisdom, and thoughtful perspective. Art was rarely the first person to speak in a discussion. He listened carefully, considered the issues, and then offered a simple observation that somehow brought clarity to the conversation and helped everyone see the way forward. That quiet wisdom was one of his gifts.

But Art did far more than serve FaithCare around a board table. He and his beloved wife, Margaret “Peg” Barron, were faithful supporters of the ministry and committed prayer warriors. Art also participated in three FaithCare international medical outreaches, where he experienced firsthand the impact of bringing compassionate medical care, hope, and the love of Christ to people in need.

Those experiences left a deep impression on him.

One of Art’s greatest hopes for FaithCare was the development of an international hospital in Nigeria. He and Peg were especially excited when that dream became a reality in 2024. Today, a room at the FaithCare hospital bears the names of Art and Peg Hill, a lasting reminder of their extraordinary faithfulness and generosity.

For Art, this was more than a medical mission. It reflected the Gospel he believed and lived: that people are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and love.

That same conviction characterized every part of Art’s remarkable life.

He devoted decades to Christian education, serving as a teacher, coach, principal, and headmaster at schools including Wilmington Friends School, Lexington Christian Academy, Hawthorne Christian Academy, and Annapolis Area Christian School. “Coach” was a title his former players remembered fondly; not simply because of the teams he led, but because of the character, perseverance, integrity, and values he sought to instill in them.

He served on the board of Eastern University and helped establish Brandywine Valley Church. During his years in Maine, he was an active member of Spruce Head Community Church. He taught Bible studies and Sunday School classes and had a deep love for Scripture and for helping others understand how God’s Word speaks into everyday life.

He also served his country in the Army.

And throughout his 70 years of marriage to Peg, Art opened his home and his life generously to family and friends. Hospitality, friendship, learning, service, and faith were not separate parts of his life. They were woven together into the fabric of who he was.

Art’s faith was never merely something he talked about. He lived it.

Perhaps that is why his legacy feels so much larger than a list of accomplishments. His life reminds us that Christian service is often measured not in titles, but in relationships—in the student encouraged, the player mentored, the person welcomed, the Bible study participant challenged, the patient cared for, and the person in need treated with dignity.

Art believed deeply in FaithCare’s mission to bring health, hope, and healing through the integration of faith and healthcare.

And he helped make that mission tangible for countless people.

The FaithCare family is deeply grateful for Art’s faithful service, his friendship, his wisdom, his prayers, and his unwavering belief in what God could accomplish through this ministry. His influence will continue through the students he taught, the churches he served, the people he encouraged, and the lives touched through FaithCare.

As we remember Art, perhaps the greatest tribute we can offer is to ask the question his life continually answered:

How can my faith become visible in the way I serve others?

Art answered that question with his life.

We give thanks for Art Hill; for his faith, his friendship, his servant’s heart, and his example of a life well lived for Christ. We pray that his legacy will inspire each of us to turn our own faith into action.
